Day 1: Marrakech / Ouarzazate
This morning you will start your journey to Ouarzazate, stopping at the occasional Berber villages and ruined kasbahs, following the river Imini and climbing up to the Tizi N’Tichka Pass, offering fabulous views over some of the most stunning scenery of the Atlas Mountains, passing unspoilt valleys and terraced subsistence cultivation fields.
Upon arrival, check into your hotel.
Overnight in Ouarzazate.
Day 2 : Ouarzazate / Merzouga
Drive to Merzouga along the Dades Valley, known as Road of the Thousand Kasbahs. En route, visit Kelaa M’Gouna famous for its Persian roses and local perfume essences produce.
Arrive at the spectacular Todra Gorges and take a walk amid towering canyon walls rising 1200 ft. in places. Continue on to Erfoud before transferring to 4WD car and drive off-road to Merzouga in the edge of the Sahara desert. Upon arrival, traditional welcome with mint tea, followed by a camel ride in the sand dunes at sunset. Nomadic style dinner around a camp fire whilst being entertained by local musicians. Overnight in a private bedouin tent, complete with carpets, beds, sheets, blankets and pillows. Tented toilet facilities nearby.
Day 3 : Merzouga / Ouarzazate
Early morning wakeup to watch the fabulous sunrise behind the towering dunes. Return to the camp for a Berber breakfast. You venture out to the ancient fortified town of Rissani, the famous capital of the first kingdom of the south and the ruins of Sijilmassa, the former staging post for the old Caravan routes of gold, salt and slaves which once linked Morocco to Timbuktu and the rest of Africa in the 8th century. Continue on to Ouarzazate.
Overnight in Ouarzazate.
Day 4 : Ouarzazate / Marrakech
This morning, visit the sumptuous Kasbahs of Taourirt and Tifoultoute before departing to the fortified village of Ait Benhaddou. This is the most exotic and best preserved kasbah village in the whole region which is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. It has starred in many masterpieces of the cinema such as Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy and Gladiator. Take a walk through the fortified village and explore its impressive dramatic structures before returning back to Marrakech.
